This Privacy Policy applies to My Driving School CC (Registration No. 2010/134346/23), a driving school operating in Pretoria and Centurion, South Africa. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” refer to My Driving School CC.

2. Our Commitment

We take your privacy seriously and comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have.

3. Information We Collect

When you register, book a lesson, or use our website, we may collect the following personal information:

  • Identity information — full names, surname, ID number, date of birth
  • Contact details — home/postal address, email address, cellphone and telephone numbers
  • Parent or guardian details — if you are under the age of 18, we also collect the names and contact number of a parent or legal guardian
  • Uploaded documents — a copy of your ID, your Learner’s Licence (if applicable) and proof of payment
  • Payment information — the reference number, amount and date on your proof of payment. We do not store credit card or banking login details on our website
  • Lesson and booking records — packages purchased, lesson dates, test-booking information and instructor notes
  • Technical information — standard website data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, collected via cookies (see Section 9)

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information only for the purposes for which you provided it, including:

  • Registering you as a client and confirming your booking
  • Booking your Learner’s Licence or Driver’s Licence test at a testing centre through the E-Natis system
  • Verifying your payment and issuing receipts or invoices
  • Contacting you about lesson scheduling, test dates, reminders and changes
  • Emailing you study material you have requested
  • Meeting our legal record-keeping obligations under South African law
  • Improving our services and responding to your enquiries

5. Sharing of Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We share it only with the parties necessary to provide our services, namely:

  • Testing authorities — the Department of Transport, Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) and the E-Natis booking system, in order to book and register your tests
  • Our bank — to confirm that a payment reflected against your booking has been received
  • Service providers that help us run the business (such as our website host and email provider), who are contractually bound to keep your information confidential
  • Regulators, courts or law enforcement — only where we are required by law to do so

6. How We Store and Protect Your Information

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. These include:

  • Secure (HTTPS) website hosting
  • Access controls — only staff who need the information for their work can view it
  • Password-protected email and cloud storage
  • Secure disposal of paper copies once they are no longer required

Despite our best efforts, no system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If we become aware of a data breach that affects you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.

7. How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes set out above, or for as long as the law requires. Registration and booking records are generally kept for a minimum of five (5) years after your last lesson, to comply with tax, accounting and regulatory requirements. After that, records are securely destroyed.

8. Your Rights Under POPIA

You have the right, at any time, to:

  • Request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you
  • Request access to a copy of that information
  • Request that we correct or update any information that is inaccurate or out of date
  • Request that we delete information we are no longer required to keep
  • Object to the processing of your information in certain circumstances
  • Withdraw any consent you have given (this will not affect processing done before withdrawal)
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

9. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to make the site work and to improve your experience. The main cookies we use are:

  • Session and security cookies — to keep you logged in and keep your shopping cart working
  • WooCommerce cookies — to remember the contents of your cart and your preferences during checkout
  • Anonymous analytics cookies — to help us understand which pages are popular and improve the site

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the website may not work properly if you do.

10. Children and Minors

Our services are often used by people under the age of 18 who want to obtain their Learner’s or Driver’s Licence. Where the applicant is a minor, we require that a parent or legal guardian provides consent and their contact details on the registration form. Parents and guardians have the same rights set out in Section 8 in respect of their child’s information.

11. External Links

Our website may link to other websites (for example the E-Natis booking site, Facebook or our bank’s payment page). This policy does not cover those sites; please read their own privacy notices.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will always be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Where the changes are significant, we will do our best to bring them to your attention.
